I am a 15 year old boy who has been interested in modeling for a while. I have been told by family and friends that I should pursue it. I really have no idea where to start, my mom is reluctant to pay for classes, and she suggested approaching an agency with some normal 3x5 pictures taken of me. Is this a good idea? I have researched legitimate modeling agencies around the Orlando area, but do not know if that is the correct path that I should take.

first thing you do is believe in yourself, really believe in yourself, and only surround yourself with those who feel the same. no negative energy
second thing you do, is start watching all the modeling shows on televisions, as well as watch the fashion shows, read trade magazines, get knowledgable on photographers, different modeling agency's, big name accounts like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and so on, look at their current ads - design your hair as their models do, look at their faces in the ads - practice their look in the mirror, and lastly, wear their clothes if possible. -then have your pictures taken, pro shots and only 8x10....don't seriously expect any results with a few 3x5's, you'll probably be laughed out the door.

live and breath it and you will become it.
good luck.

You should probably start small, such as a local department store or something along those lines. You don't want to jump right away into something that is already "Big Business" like Polo, CK, Tommy, or Gap because you're more than likely going to be laughed at without an agent. If you haven't been discovered by anyone, you dont want to force it when it comes to big name stores and also, you dont want to hurt your own confidence or self-esteem if you were to get rejected right away--dont set yourself up for failure. If you get some small time modeling work, you could make some money for classes if you want, and then with experience and the help of the instructors--if you can build a good enough relationship with them--will help you land an agent but agents get expensive, so don't rush right into this unless you know modeling is exactly what you want to do.

Don't jump into the bandwagon right away. Have a good schooling in any subject of your liking, learn more about the country and the world . Learn proper etiquette for every occasion, perfect the art of repartee in polished style ( not rough and uncouth 'in your face' kind of replies) and, in general, acquire popularity in the college. Exercise properly and develop a strong body that supports a strong mind. Not just muscles alone. A dignified bearing carries you farther than a WWI boxer look. Overall, have patience till you are 18 to contest for the title. I would recommend twenty as the ideal entry age, though. Meanwhile go on collecting a good portfolio of you natural and posed photographs, get them edited on photo shop or other good software .

It will benefit you if you study some of the top slot advertisements and check out on the gait, bearing and manners of the big gun models. You don't have to be clone of anyone, but this learning will help you to develop your own characteristic style and get noticed when you go for competitions.

Last, but not the least, keep miles away from experimenting with psychotropic and other habit forming drugs.

GOOD LUCK!

If a agency wants you you should never have to pay.

1). Go to a college or university and have your pictures taken by students in photo courses most will do this for free or a small fee to cover photos and they need it to get the grade. Different photos showing different looks.

2) Go to agencys and show your pic's ask for their references and check up on them. Speak to other models that work for them.

Good luck

Your mom is partially right...but insted of 3x5..go get some real photos taken and put you a portfolio together in different styles of clothing, looks, settings. Then, shop that around.

First you have to be good "looking"...tall and super skinny...

then be vain and cocky...then get your porfolio together and go to a modeling agency where they'll charge you an arm and a leg to take your pictures and make that porfolio for you...they will put your pictures in their albums and hopefully someone will call your for gigs...goodluck

whatever you end up finding, make sure you don't give up your normal education and learning a solid skill for a living. No matter how beautiful(physically) you are, it is a quality of a person that no one possesses forever( and you really don't know what you would look like say, five years from now). Most of all, beware of all the dark side and keep a clear head.(drug abuse and exploitations from all ,etc....)

create a portfolio (if you have the cash get a professional photographer to help)

go to agencies and submit them your portfolio

they will then call and sign you on as a model if they are interested

good luck!
