The only way to know that something cannot be explained naturally would be to know everything. Jumping to the "it must be a miracle" claim is something that people only do because of arrogance.
Those of us who do not believe in miracles generally have the humility to recognize that we don't have all of the answers.

I suppose you can "explain away" miracles - with science/logic/fact. But based on what I believe - God is everything and everything is God. It's all God. God is Love. It's also creativity. The brain of the man who creates the "miraculous" science - IS God. It's all God. So - it's science and It's God.
Miracles do happen. A miracle is anything that is miraculous to the one seeing/experiencing it. I witness miracles all the time! The human body is a miracle! But that doesn't mean that it's not a scientific thing. It is! But it's still God. Because - God is everything - and that includes science.
There's no reason why God and Science/Logic/Fact can't go hand in hand. Is there?
Gosh - I feel like I'm not explaining this very well - but it's just what I believe in my heart. Hope it makes sense!
Namaste!

"Miracles" are occurrences that do not follow the regular, orderly laws of physics of God's ordered creation. So they cannot be explained by science. Those who place their faith in science will typically retort that either the miracle did not happen, or that it just cannot yet be explained by science (so that we could explain it if we just work harder to try to understand it). Here we can clearly see that even if a "miracle" truly did occur, those who "believe" in science have the philosophical tools to avoid accepting that it did indeed occur. Science as it is constructed CAN NEVER accept that a miracle occurred.
In point of fact, a true atheistic science believes EVERYTHING is a miracle, because it can produce no reason why the universe of chance in which we supposedly live operates according to laws (which, being immaterial, cannot exist in the atheist's universe anyway!) that we can use to predict future events. Since there is no reason for predictability but yet it exists, that's a MIRACLE!

Even the most spectacular miracle in the bible, the splitting of the sea in exodus, is described as being a 'natural' phenomenon. The wind blew all night and then the sea was heaped up. Even if it only happened once, if it happened thru nature it's a natural occurence.
What makes it a miracle? The timing. That these events occured, even through 'natural' means, at the precise time and place that they were needed...and never did so again (or rarely), THAT is what makes it a miracle.

There is no evidence for any real miracles. The challenge has been out there for many years, show us the facts. Any miracle that has been anounced and investigated has been show to be nothing but a fraud or the over active imagination of peoples minds like the Virgin appearing in the rust stain of a highway underpass or on a piece of burnt toast. Where are these miracles, what is the proof.

The bible is not historical fact. The people who wrote the bible were ignorant of what we know today. So many of the events they describe can be explained by logic and science because we are more educated and have some a long way scientifically since biblical times.
They have their biblical science these days, sure, but it's still tainted by religion, not true science.

His answer is internally logical. A miracle is an event that is impossible according to the rules of nature as we know them. That's a correct statement. That is the definition of the word miracle.
He's also correct that for you to bring science against certain episodes in the Bible is silly, because most of those episodes are in the Bible because they obviously violate scientific principles. They violated the scientific principles they knew of. Ancient people were technologically unadvanced, they weren't stupid. The Biblical writers know that by the rules of nature it is impossible for a body of water to split in two, have walls of water on each side, let one group of people pass through without their feet getting wet, then crash in on the enemy. They knew that.
The point of the story is how great it was that divine intervention led to the nullifying of natural law. For you to point out that the event went against natural law is self evident. That's the point of the story.
Your argument thus boils down to you don't believe in miracles. His is that he does. Your like little kids says ya-huh, na-uh, at eaqch other, you just use more words because you mistakingly think that makes you smarter.

are you able to describe why each individual who wakes up each morning nevertheless wakes up. Why? Why dont hearts and lungs jsut quit at evening? Why carry out a touch peoples hearts and lungs basically quit in the evening, and they bypass away of their sleep. I even do no longer know....you do no longer know...and that i'm ninety 9.9% particular that ninety 9.9% of hte human beings in this earth do no longer know both. So, no...i will not clarify those issues, and that i will not clarify this issue. Labeling some thing a miracle does no longer make it real. bill Clinton suggested he did no longer have sexual realtions with that lady. united states says it doesnt torture. OJ's glove didnt fit. Calling it some thing does no longer make it so

If I have several hundred tonnes of metal, fuel, rubber etc in midair, is that a miracle? No, because it has a more likely scientific explanation - aerodynamics.
If something is to be described as a miracle, it should first be considered whether a scientific reason can be given. Then it should be explained why a supernatural reason is more likely than a scientific one in that particular case.

"Some of the biblical events you described are impossible, of course. But that is what makes them miracles!"
You'd be wasting time debating with someone who has that mentality- they're living in a fantasy world and have no interest in facts or evidence.
