Urgh. Protein refers to molecular structure, fruit is a generally term for food that contains seeds. If you want to get poetic; the coconut is the 'fruit' of the palm, but technically, it's a seed. It is a source of protein.

If you're talking about the food pyramid, then it is a protein with beans and nuts.

Botanically, it is a fruit (but so are cashews, peanuts and some other nuts.)
