Scientists who have modeled the flood, suspect there was a heavy canopy of water vapor surrounding the Earth. Dr. Baumgartner, the father of plate tectonics, built into his computer model the idea of a violent release of water from below the ground which shattered the continents. This release was so violent it upset and collapsed the water canopy. This planetary covering would have looked similar to Venus' covering today, and would have created similar thermal effects. It also would have shielded Earth from much of the solar radiation which may account for the longer life spans recorded before the flood, and explains the higher oxygen content we see in old amber pockets.

Other scientists have calculated the force of this ejected water would have carried it into the stratosphere, where it would have returned to the ground frozen after raising the albedo of the planet temporarily. This is what caused the ice age.

It continues for a while, it is like stepping though the looking glass.

well worth your time. No wonder we don't get these creationist theories in school!

Oh, ps. Dr. Baumgartner does exist, it is just that he is not insane like this guy is: http://www.agu.org/revgeophys/person00/person00.html

Somehow I find these people cute, I don't know why. It's like those magazines for pregnant women, you know, all the articles about pink clouds and how beautiful it is. Never once you'd see an article about the pain, the trouble, etc. It's cute, really. The goddidit theory. Sigh.

But sometimes I can't find it cute anymore. My girlfriend and me are considering moving to the USA. She's Romanian, we speak English at home, so we want to live in en English speaking country.

My main fear is that creationsists in the USA will someday actually take over the schools. And my future children will maybe be allowed their daily 'moment of science'. That thought actually scares the crap out of me.

From what I remember on reading this theory, the funny part is that they forgot to take into account the change in potential energy occuring when the water canopy collapsed. This would have heated the oceans to 2000K boiling them (and Noah) off instantly. Fatal flaw :P

Acid, Acid, Acid... Hi.

The water canopy theory was disposed of years ago in creationists circles due to lack of evidence.

Much like the evolutionary concept of recapitulation. Discredited decades ago by evolutionists, but still pulled out every so often.

I have no time for creationists who simply say "God did it" and will point out their erroneous statements that support creation (eg Darwin on the deathbed) as quickly as I would point out erroneous statements supporting evolution.

Most people will believe what you tell them... that is the greatest issue facing man - acceptance without thought.

So the force of the water "shattered" the continents but the Ark was okay? Makes sense to me

thanks, now I can be a creationist any time I like with this handy 'cut and paste' answer.

do you think the 'computer model' was actually a model of a computer made out of upturned egg cartons and shoe boxes?

They took Creatioinist theories out of school and we wonder why we've had so many "medicine" advances in America.
