I have a brand new duo core computer with Windows XP and yes it is compatable with Windows Vista. At first I was worried about having the XP but no problems. However upgrading to Windows Vista right now to many people are having problems with it. There is still a lot of bugs to be ironed out with the system so until it improves I won't be. I'll stay with the XP

I've upgraded from a non-working computer to a new computer with Vista. I'm still debating whether I want to downgrade, or just wait it out until the bugs are worked through. Yeah, there are issues!

Dear you have not mentioned the hardware configuration of your system.
Well for Vista basic edition, a 1.5GHz processor, min 512MB RAM with onboard graphics with 32MB of allocated RAM is what required for acceptable performance.
For Vista premium edition, I recomend you to go for 2GB of RAM, if possible a dual core prosessor (Intel Core Duo are the best), and fo for a dedicated video card having 256MB of onboard memeory fo run Vista at max.
For all these buying video card is the most complecated task, so letme handle this, if you want very good graphics performance and want to run all the latest games at acceptable frame rates go for card based on nVidia 7400 chipset or ATI x1800. Thse cost anything between 150$ to 300$ dependint upon other features provided by the card

Yes. I have performed upgrades and clean installs. Both went without a hitch. The main thing to look out for is any compatibility issues. Microsoft has a free tool that can be used to check and see if your computer is Vista ready.

Just type "vista problems" in the Search for answers box above.
While you're waiting for MS to fix the Vista problems. Get UBUNTU (or XUBUNTU if your computer has less than 256MB of RAM).
It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.
You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".
It's easy to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.
Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.
Always back up your data before making changes to your computer.

No, and I don't intend to. Vista still has many bugs and is a complete resource hog. XP is still working great...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
