Couple of reasons:
More expensive ingredients
Higher fat/butter content (which is more expensive)
Less air pumped into the ice cream, which is why a pint of B&J's will weigh more than cheap ice cream
But most importantly, it's priced higher because people are willing to pay for it.

Ben and Jerrys uses top quality ingredieants, and if you notice pick up a pint of thier ice cream and a store brand, ben and jerrys is twice as heavy. Thats because they dont inject much air into thier product as its bing made. I used to work for a dairy and when they made thier ice cream they whipped in air as it was freeezing so that they didnt have to use as much icecream to fill the containers, Let a Ben and Jerrys melt, and a cheaper brand melt you will see the difference.

Ben and Jerry's uses real ingredients and it's ice cream has less "overrun" (ice cream jargon for "air" in the ice cream) in it's product. A pint of B&J should have more ice cream in it than a pint of the cheap stuff
Of course, it's a brand name and that always adds to the retail regardless of the product.

While a small fraction of the equastion is ingredients, the vast majority is all in marketing. Why is it so expensive, because someone is willing to pay the asking price. So long as there are those willing to pay, they will continue to ask and get that kind of money. Supply and demand.

Real cream, sugar, fruits, vanilla etc. instead of flavorings. For one it is better for you and you don't need to eat as much of the expensive stuff to feel satisfied.
And since the company was originally founded by hippies I bet they pay their employees well w. benefits..... as opposed to the generic companies that are paying some central american squat to work 12 hour shifts.

The ex-hippies have acquired a taste for expensive things.
"More Dom Perignon, Ben?"
"But of course, if you would kindly pass the caviar, Jerry. I wonder what the little people are supping on tonight."

They use more expensive ingredients. Real cherries are like $5.99/lb. They also use branded items like Heath bars. AND, all the different packages are more expensive because there are a lot of varieties. Colbert just got his own flavor, for Heaven's sake.
