This man courted me, and sent me letters and gave little gifts (like souvenirs), with them words of so sweet breath compos'd as made the things more rich. And he said he loved me and hinted at marriage. Then in one day he turned against me, and said that he loved me not.
The more I was deceived!
My father Polonius told me that I was just a plaything to him, but I did not listen.
I returned his letters and presents, but I feel lost now, and what should I do? How can I survive being dumped?

Ophelia in your case a self-drowning is the only course of action. The Prince of Denmark will never be interested in anyone but his mother.....you might try telling your brother that too.

Ophelia, you are at the beginning of a wonderful time of self discovery. Now is the time for you to give yourself the gift of time and healing. Do whatever you need to do initially to get this man out of your system: invite friends over to eat lots of ice cream, watch sad movies or comedies, walk around in your p.j.s for awhile. Do whatever you need to do just don't stay there. Start creating your best life by finding out what your true passions are ( literature perhaps?), making friends with shared goals and interests. Start making a list of short term and long term goals. Work on your goals everyday even if for only a few minutes a day ( researching whatever) Keep a journal of how you are progressing. Observe what is happening to you and get excited about how close you are coming to your goals. Be willing to force yourself, when you have to, in order to accomplishing your goals. In pursuing new goals that serve and nurture you you will not feel lost. You will have a direction and map. Enjoy the journey. Stay positive. I would also suggest that you set aside a time for yourself to affirm yourself. Start with looking at the mirror and telling yourself how much you love yourself and how YOU are going to bring YOU to a place of love and trust.

Oh my poor innocent ophelia,
I can see your pale face.
but you dont have to go to the river.
even galmourous hollywood stars are dumping each other everyday.
dont let this hurt your selfesteem nor give up seeking true relationship.
you just came across spoiled milk which you had thought fresh one.
its natural you are disappointed.
have some time really for you.
giggle with your close friends.
or play tennis or swimming.
practice smiling again.
thats all. sooner or later the real one will come to you.
the best is yet to come maybe the real one will be me(kidding)
good luck. and dont call yourself ophelia , it sounnds like a curse. better happy piggy.

Sounds as though he was just playing with you, from what you describe, but it can be different when you experience things like that.
I'd only suggest you make yourself busy and occupied, so you won't try and think of him all that much and not to rush into anything else so soon with another person. Try writing letters to him about your feelings and what you think about the situation and all you have gone through, but don't send them, it can be a way to relieve the heart ache you feel.
Sadly, nothing will ever make you forget about him, but that is just one thing in life's lessons everyone will make.

Dearest Ophella
Beware of men named Hamlet they tend to be men who hate their mothers, and are callus sexual predators, with a warped view of women, think all women are whores, you have the possibility here to be a tragic heroine, don't become a mere tragic brought on by insanity. stay strong he is just an emptied soul, you could change the literature world!!
