Also, while I was taught in biology classes in school that these each register on different parts of your tongue, I have read in medical journals that the studies supporting this are highly tainted by non-scientific procedures and the power of suggestion. For example, if you're under the preconception that you taste sweets on the front of you tongue, so you put something sweet up there, you're only supporting your preconception not testing anything. In truly scientific studies, the data did not sufficiently support clearly distinct tasting sections, just a predisposition in some people to have their receptors clumped rather than evenly dispersed...

well if sweet, salt, and sour are "proper" then so is bitter..... but you are looking for umami
