I always ate the entire roasted pumpkin seed when I was a kid. I heard it stays in your digestive system for a longer time then the seed itself though.

i used to eat the whole sunflower seed... especially the ones with the seasoning: they'd season the shell, so you had to eat it, or spit it out. So yeah, i used to eat the whole thing all the time... I don't think it would hurt you or else they wouldn't sell the seeds in the shells. Anyway this was years and years ago and I'm still alive, so I don't see any problem with eating the whole things. I think I've eaten the whole pumpkin seed too... i think i didn't realize that it was even in a shell.

Both are safe.

Sunflower seed shells can tend to make some people have what feels like a very rough time when they go to the bathroom though.

Be sure you drink plenty of water so that the shells can soften up in your digestive tract.

Other than that the fiber is actually quite good for you.

Pumpkin seeds are a natural mood enhancer and have cancer fighting properties too.

I grow pumpkins every year and make my own roasted seeds. The birds usually get all the sunflower seeds first though. But that's okay because it gets them to stick around and eat more bugs.
