Satan wanted to take over God's job to rule heaven, and his pride got in the way of being God's favorite Angel. God created Lucifer to be the most beautiful Angel in all of Heaven. In Ezekiel the bible says that he was an angel the most beautiful angel of all and god adorned him with fine jewels and that he was good, but it said his heart grew haughty and he believed he should have his own followers so he turned evil after acting on his thoughts of wanting worship for himself and when he went down to the garden of Eden to deceive Adam and eve he earned the name devil and Satan which means slander and opposer. So when he was created he was good but acted on a wicked thought of wanting worship for himself in which he turned from God.

Vanity and pride. He was the most beautiful angel and I guess he thought he deserved some more attention than what he was getting.

It made for a better storyline, and you need a good storyline to get converts. Also, many of the other religions had devils, so it was fashionable at the time.

He became jealous of God and wanted to be in power. he organized and manipulated other angels into following him.
Therefor the one true and powerful God cast him out of Heaven. Lucifer was once Gods most cherished angel.
Greed and jealousy overtook him. He wanted to be God.

b/c he thought he could be God because he was a Beautiful God the bible saids he reflected beautiful things but he started to think that he could be God.
