On the CD, it sounds like the music is playing at somewhere around 300kbps, but my WMP rips music from my CDs and saves the files as 128kbps. This low bitrate sounds absolutely horrific, and I was wondering if there is a way to make it so that the file can be saved as it is on the CD.

Get away from Windows Media Player... Try something like Easy CD-DA Extractor which gives you so many ripping choices it's scary.

Exact Audio Copy is another great ripper and it's FREE. It's not as user friendly as Easy CD-DA Extractor, but many people prefer it when ripping in loseless formats like FLAC.

Yes you can. Go to "tools" then "options" click the "rip music" tab. at the bottom of the widow you will see "audio quality". It ranges from smallest size to best quality. The only bad part is that the best quality only goes to 192kbps. If you would like to go higher you will need a different media player. I would suggest Music Match 9.0. I can go as high as 360kbps. Just remember when you increase the Kbps you will use more hard disc drive space when storing the music files to you PC.

Yes you can change the bitrate for ripping. Go into media player options. Select tools>options>Rip Music tab, from here you can change the bitrate.
