Usually I faint straight afterwards, but this one must have been a whole 12 hours later, why could that be?

And I am going to stop giving blood, I just always feel guilty that there is some poor little child in bed needing my B+ blood to make them better!

I've done it four times, threw up the first two and fainted the last two.

There may be a chance you are anemic. No matter what the cause is, you need to go and see your doctor. If it is anemia, your doctor will let you know if you just need to take a once a week supplement, a daily, etc. Sometimes your body just needs a little more time to recover after giving blood.

It also depends on what else is happening in your life. If you were under stress for something else, say like a Mid-Term test(s) in college, or something to do with work, or you hadn't eaten a meal in several hours....then your body will react to that.

Best bet is to just go and see your doctor, get checked out.

I work as a phlebotomist, it is common to faint after giving blood at any time that day. Your probably normal and halt. You should eat and DRINK more the day you give blood. Fluids are the first part of your blood you need to replace, latter your body will make more blood cells. Please don't stop donating blood. The one donation you made is actually used to help several people. The blood is separated into separate parts. Your cells might have saved the life of someone with anemia or a chronic bleed. Your clotting factors save the life of a hemophiliac. Your platelets could save the life of a new mother. It is harder for women to donate blood, because women menstruate. Consider when you had your last period and when you plan on donating blood. Try to donate in the middle of your cycle. and please keep donating because many people can not.

I would talk to the Red Cross or whoever took your blood. There is somehting going on that is causing this. You haven't given enough information to suggest a cause.
You should not feel guilty about not giving blood. If you are not in good health, above a certain weight, you should not give blood. Presence of other things like certain prescription drugs and viruses preclude you from giving blood.
When I lived in another city, we routinely got calls asking us to give blood. I asked them if it would stop me giving blood if I have a high MCV and possibly a tetanus titre. They hung up pretty quick on me when I said that.

It's good of you to help, and bless you for giving blood, but you need to first of all look out for your own health. It is normal to faint afterwards, but I would just talk to your doctor about the situation since it was 12 hours later......just to be on the safe side.

Your blood levels are probably dropping too low, tell your doctor or nurse, maybe they can take less blood from you, it is common for people to faint after giving blood, I can't give blood because I have had a blood transfusion, which like you was donated by someone who cares.

You sound like a very kind person. I used to give blood but on the last donation I almost fainted too and stopped giving it. i would ask a doctor his advice.
