The male we had died suddenly, but the female is getting territorial, not acting quite like herself, and her...um...how would I put this delicately...her nipples are poofing up. This isn't one of those "could she be pregnant" question, just "could it be possible she could get pregnant even if she wasn't in heat.

No she can not get pregnant if she is not in heat but she could be have a phantom pregnante it should pass in a few weeks. gd luck x

Male dogs will only have sex with females if the latter are in heat. I think. But I am not sure, so ...

It could be a phantom pregnancy - take her to the vet
