l'oreal x-tenso is a lifesaver. believe me, i had awfully thick, coarse and wavy hair when i was younger. i hated it, it didn't make me feel good about myself. and then i went to a really good salon where they offered l'oreal x-tenso, AND IT CHANGED MY LIFE, I AM NOT KIDDING! my hair was "shampoo commercial"-gorgeous after the treatment! i didn't even have to iron it, i swear! all it needed was a good leave-in conditioner. my hair was smooth and incredibly glossy. the price is a bit steep, but i would not recommend the do-it-yourself rebonding kits or more affordable hair treatments. this is your hair we're talking about. don't be frugal. anyway, the results after the treatment were amazing, but i guess it also depends on your hair type.

If you have moderately fizzy hair go to Yuko system or Megamix in central London.

I'm not sure if it works on Afro-African people's hair.
Megamix charges about £180 and £300 at Yuko system if you have long hair. It will take about 5 hrs.
The end result is just amazing. Your hair stays very shiny and straight for about 6-8 months without using iron at all. You hardly need to brush your hair either. However, if you have very fine and thin hair it might look too flat.

I wouldn't advise it after personal experience! I had curly frizzy hair and always used my straighteners. Then I went to Saks hairdresser and paid about £100 and had it done. (They were really good, so if you do get it done go there!). However, my hair has taken about 2years to recover; it was really dry and damaged. It wasn't even straight, just a bit smoother, and I still had to use straighteners. It looked pretty awful. Now, its in better condition but it abut 10times curlier than before! I have really really tight curls now and lots of frizz! So.....conclusion.....go for it if you really want it, but don't be upset if it doesn't turn out how you thought it would. Good luck!!

You can buy kits to do it from home. My wife bought some stuff from Boots the chemists. Its not as good as using straighteners but does make quite a difference and lasts for 3 months. Its strips the hair down and then puts it back together but straighter. Very clever.

I would not do because half the salons just run perming lotion through your hair which will damage the same as a perm. As long as you use a heat protector spray when you use you hair straightener's then that should be OK

Irons are ok. but you might consider a perm. But if it doesn't turn out the way you want you can't go back to the irons until like six weeks. i've gotten perms_some are great and some are okay. I prefer the iron though.

Go to a reputable hair salon. I have been straightning my hair for over 20 years and never had any problems. The key is to remeber to have plenty of treatments and steams also. I would be careful of using straightners on it too as this may cause it to break.
