olympic style fencing is what they were imitating (this is similar in appearance to traditional rapier style fencing but the application tends to be different) practically though they would have been stopped long before that for breaking the rules of that sport and honestly they were not using good form anyway so you could say they were using a stage type Olympic fencing style( something Errol Flynn was famous for) the term fencing technically describes any type of sword fighting so is the correct answer but an incomplete one
