It is certainly true that many people feel this entertainment is harmless, particularly since Harry seems to practice "good" witchcraft.

In truth, however, the Bible condemns witchcraft in all its forms and makes no distinction between the supposed 'good' and the 'bad.'

What are the spiritual effects? Any person who wishes to be pleasing to the Most High God will damage his relationship with God if he entertains himself with things that displease God. It may be "just a movie" but think about it: adultery is condemned by God. Would we invite a couple to practice adultery in our living room while we watch? Would we find that entertaining? Of course not! Then why would we invite a young boy to practice witchcraft on our television or dvd player? Both are condemned by God. What would God think if we are entertained by something He himself hates and condemns?

I am a Christian. I love the Harry Potter series. It is a series of books that uses fantasy to talk about good and evil. It is no different than reading the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis who was a Christian author. I think that is fine to read these books. Talk about the witchcraft in the book and how it is fantasy. Then talk about spirituallty. If anything it can be a tool to discuss your beliefs versus the fiction in the book. It is a wonderfully written series that my entire family enjoys.

If one is a pious and decent Christian one would not take Harry Potter seriously and consider it to be a harmless and enjoyable read, nothing more. One of the themes of Harry Potter is good vs. evil, and Harry Potter does not promote witchcraft in any way.

Harry Potter is NOT witchcraft. Harry Potter is fiction. The characters in the books perform magic. Sometimes referred to within the books as wizardry and witchcraft.

It's sad that a segment of the population would refrain from reading a series of books (which frankly, are quite well written) simply because the content refers to something completely fantastic and make-believe.

I guess christians only want their children to get their make-believe from the bible.

Well I am a Christian, in fact I am in the process of becoming a minister, and I love the books! It doesn't have negativity in it and can teach good morals of being good despite all of the evil and temptations around us. The Lord of the Rings books were filled with magic and sorcery but it was also written to parallel Christianity. As well as the Chronicles of Narnia, it is fiction and as long as you're not susceptible to turning evil by reading a good book it is fine. Also, it is so important for kids to read these days, most would rather sit in front of the TV or play video games, so a good book is exactly what we need.

Harry Potter isn't witchcraft. It's FICTION. There are no spiritual side effects. It's to be read for pleasure, not as a spiritual guide. Ridiculous.

Harry Potter is a fictional character in books of fantasy.

It has nothing to do with the actual practice of Witchcraft.

And the movies...I hate to tell you this, but they are not documentaries.

The author of those books is a Christian, BTW.

Why shouldn't it be read or watched? It is just a fictionous book!
It is not a relegious guide but just a story book.
More over the book tells us abt the evil wizards and how the good wizards like harry, his parents, dumbledore etc. try to remove evil from the world!
So is telling to remove evil from the world bad?The book is against the evil in the world!
Isnt the bible against the evil too???????????

It is a book, a fiction, a story. Nothing more. Do you tell your children fairy tales? Are they familiar with Hansel and Gretel? Aesop's Fables?
Do you read anything that is not the absolute truth?

No harm can come from what does not exist and perfect safety from God from those things which do exist. All you have to do is ask for it.

No it is not. It is a fiction book about a boy who practices witchcraft in a make-believe setting.

As long as you can keep that in mind, watch it all you want, it's a cute story.
