comes out to about $0.37 a can and sometimes I can find it for 3 for a dollar. Yesterday I saw a brand of cat food for sale at $0.73 a 3 oz can. "Chicken Florentine with egg white." In cooking for people, “Florentine” means it has spinach in it. Does a cat even need to eat spinach? Why egg white? Why not the whole egg?
Would you buy this?

Most of what Lucy eats is a kibble that is supposed to be for "indoor" cats. The canned stuff is just for dessert/treats.

No I wouldn't, and I doubt my cat will like it more over the other food. I don't think cats care so much if we put parsley or not in their meals. I pay about $0.50/can max.

$0.48/3oz can is the fancy feast I always buy for my cat. The same brand more expensive than that is a rip off!

My cats like any kind of wet food, I usually buy it in backs of 3 for $1. I buy them natural dry food, which is a little more pricey, but I was recommended this when they were kittens to prevent hyperactivity. A week into eating the natural stuff they were a lot more calm and stopped fighting each other.

The fancy feast with eggs Florentine, I doubt cats even care whether or not their food has spinach in it. Its like getting you dog groomed in fancy salons for 100 dollars, necessary, no... Does your pet care, probably not.

You can still be a great pet parent and give your pets the inexpensive stuff, it worked for generations..

Look for meat as the 1st ingredient. You do not want corn. Some of the cheap pet foods use feathers, beaks, etc. although that's not how it's listed on the label. I use organic food, but that may not be the best option for everybody. After the spinach recall, the peanut butter recall, the toothpaste recall AND the cat food recall, I'm trying to be careful what we all eat. I'm not particularly crunchy, either. If you're willing to spend the $ look into organic brands. The thing about home prepared is that if you don't know how to do it, the cat could get sick. On the other hand, my cousin has been feeding Whiskas (which is barely food in my opinion) for years and her cats are really healthy. I don't eat McDonalds myself, but if you eat it once in a while I guess you won't die- same with your cat. Good luck!

Nope, wouldn't buy it. Buying in bigger cans would cost less, (I get 9-Lives 4.5 oz. cans 4/$1) and you can get plastic covers for them to keep in the frig for the next feeding. I feed my kitty on a paper plate and just "nuke" it a little so it's warm and smells good. I don't think cats care if it has a fancy name or even fancy contents. MIne don't even care for variety much. However, if you're only feeding canned food you might want to check kitty's teeth for tartar. Mine do better on the dry food (and their breath isn't as stinky). However, they turn up their noses at cans of Iams or Science Diet or any of the expensive ones and just like the cheaper ones. I only use canned once in a while for a treat or two. I'm still looking for a cat food called "Mouse".

I feed mine 1/3 can of Friskies a day. I usually get it on sale for 3 for $1. The rest of the time he gets dry food. The wet stuff is more of a treat. No way would i spend that much on a single can.

walmart sells their fancy feast for $.37..their food is so cheap there because they buy truckloads. i run a petstore in the same town as the supercenter. we had to lower our fancy feast to exactly what walmart was selling them otherwise we'd be screwed. now they lowered it more. gah! are you also feeding your cat dry food?
There is certain canned cat food that is $.99 or more for a 3oz can. the better the ingredience is, the more expensive it is. cats do eat spinach and other dark green veggies. its healthy for their digestive system, coat, and has vitamins. and yes, cats do eat eggs. high in protein. even 9 Lives has canned cat food with egg bits in there. there are lots of Hi Protein Low Carb dry cat food out there including food with no grain.
a lot of cats are happy to eat the cheap fancy feast. i know a lot of my customers bought cans of the expensive healthy food and their cats didnt want anything to do with it.

Pet Smart has some more expensive than $.73! You have to discern between what is nutritious and what is pure garbage!
My cats will not eat Science Diet or Iams but they love their Fanct Feast! It's made by Purina and my cats are all very healthy looking! Corporate America will gouge you for all they can get if people are ignorant enough to pay the price!

You know why the cat food you people are buying is so cheap??? It's because it's garbage!!! Ever seen a cat in the wild go for a cornfield rather than a mouse??? They are not designed to digest grains, which is one of the main ingredients in the cheap cat foods next to brewers yeast and all kinds of other crap. Meat is what they need, but meat is more expensive, and thats why they put those cheap fillers in the food.

I don't buy canned cat food, mine eat dry, except for the occasional foil packet that they get as a treat once in a blue moon... so I can't comment on price.

But the reason for just egg white no yolk, is higher protein, low fat. Spinach is good for them for the same reason it's good for us. It's got lots of vitamin E and that's needed to reduce the risk of cancer, allergies and arthritis.

Vegetables are good for every living being BUT at .73 a can I'd be leaving it in the store. They are just catering to the rich who can afford to buy such "nonsense".....just like diamond studded collars.

The cat food that you are buying at .37 per can is probably at the lower end of the scale for quality cat food, but if your cat likes it (and that is the biggest thing with cats), and is doing well on it - leave things as they are. Make sure you are giving your cat dry kibble as well - they need it for dental health as well as the other nutrients/fibers missing from the wet food.
