I'm sick of picking up so much crap. I know the better the food, the more absorbed, less by-product to digest= less crap. What do you suggest?

As a Golden breeder I always fed my dogs and still do NUTRO large breed food. If your dog is still a puppy then get the puppy formula if not then the large breed adult.
Do not feed IAMS. To much protein makes the dogs grow to rapidly and can cause problems.
NUTRO can be found at PetCo and PetsMart and at most feed and grain stores.
Whatever you decide on make sure it's for large breed dogs.
My dogs are beautiful their coats are great and their teeth are in wonderful shape.

There are a few different foods that will help tremendously. Eukanuba is what I have my Great Dane on and he only goes about two to three times daily. Also they offer a special food just for golden retrievers. The best food out there is called Royal Canin, you can pick this up at any petsmart. It is around the same price as eukanuba and science diet. They also have a special food for golden retrievers. Using these products will slow the crap down and he or she will start pooping 2 -3 times daily. Also it will be a real good, hard crap. I hope this helps.

I got a dog with a compromised immune system that resulted in a skin condition that caused hair loss all over his body. Obviously a stable home environment has contributed to his recovery, but he has an extremely beautiful and shiny coat now that I attribute to his diet. I give him an omega 3 supplement every single day and some raw foods that are supposed to help with his coat. His core diet is Halo puppy kibble and canned food which is really good for dogs with allergies and skin conditions. He has thrived on it and I have no complaints. I have heard good things about Orijen, Wellness, and Blue. I heard that EVO just got bought out and that their quality may be compromised, so I would do some research on that company before you buy.

If you want to pick up less crap, get a food that doesn't have corn listed as the first ingredient. I prefer to feed corn free food. I feed Canidae which is fairly reasonable as the upper end dog foods go and my dogs have done very well on it. You can check their website to see if there is a distributor near you.

I don't know of any breed specific foods unless you have a breed that tends to have allergy issues. And actually, I have read that golden retrievers do tend to have some food allergy issues. I've read cases where G.R.'s have chronic ear infections which clear up after switching the dog's food.

In my opinion, Iams is not a good quality food nor is Purina One.

Farrell's Kibble is the best for all dogs, as it is a dry food which is good for their teeth, and contains no fillers. Combine this with fresh vegetables (I use a food processor with about 7 different kinds of veg, and freeze it one cup amounts) and a herbal supplement which contains things such as blackstrap molasses and kelp, and you'll have a healthy dog! A fresh bone each week helps, too!

Blessings, Gypsy Queen

PS: I'm in Australia, so you may not be able to get Farrell's kibble.

Pro Plan is a very good dog food. It is a little more expensive, and you have to get from a pet supply store (not the average department store or grocery store).

Iams and Eukanuba are also great brand of dogfood.

I have fed my dogs all three of the brands I mentioned.

I am a huge fan of Nurto products. My 4 dogs (ages 16,7,6,5) all eat either Nutro Natural Choice or Nutro Ultra.

Goldens tend to have food allergies that affect their skin so I would go with Innova EVO. It does not contain any grains and it has human grade ingredients so go with that!!!

I hate to say brands but IAMS is really good quality food and it helped my dog lose weight and get healthier. I use to buy her cheap stuff but it is not so cheap in the long run.
