Right lane is the slow lane because, usually the exits are on the right side. So if you need to take an exit, you need to reduce speed to take it. So the Left lane is there for continuous traffic and the right is there for slower drivers who are looking for their exits. :)

In the usa we drive on the right side normally so that would leave the left lane open.

Some Idiot decided so and we all followed.
Actually.. to pass on a one lane road you must cross the center line (pass on the left).. setting the standard of passing left or fast lane left.. Foolish consistency makes for safer driving

because the driver is at the left side, the left side becomes the overtaking lane, hence the faster lane. and so the right becomes the slower lane.

bc people are merging on from on ramps on the right side and exiting and you have to slow down to exit and people generally fail at merging like there are really really bad drivers out there and if they had to merge with people going 80 it would be a disaster
