2 twin female 8year old housecats started a MASSIVE fight. Only stopped when we split them up. After a few hours we let them out, and it was the same. We shouted at them this time and locked them back in a bedroom each. The smaller one was much more scared and effected by the fight, but she's the braver one??
We tried again to introduce them before we went to bed, but it was just as bad. My husband and i slept in a room each with a cat so as not to favour one. The next day the cats were the same, so last night me and my husband had to sleep in seporate rooms again!
If one cat meows, the other one will hiss and growl towards the door!
They seem to HATE each other all of a sudden. the smaller one seems more calmer though and it's the fat one that has started the fights when we try to introduce them to each other again. WHAT DO I DO?! Any techneques to make them friends again?! PLEASE PLEASE HELP! i miss my husband and the easy life!

Have they had rabies shots, I hope? Sometimes, it's just the change in seasons...and the one fighting wants out!
She may actually have a virus of be sick...and this has affected her behavior. I would take her to the vet. If it started suddenly, it must be something wrong with her...it's not her fault probably, so yelling at her is only going to make it worse. I love my kitties too, so good luck.

This happens with my cats all the time. It sounds like a dominance issue. I know this would be hard considering you're in a studio apartment, but separating them for a while might help smooth things out. Try giving them each their own place to sleep and eat? Give them baskets at different parts of the apartment. Feed each of them in their own bowls. Also, try rewarding them for good behavior. If you see them being sweet to each other, give them treats. The next time you see the larger one attacking the smaller one, put her in in time-out, maybe in a carrier for a while. Do this every time she attacks. She should start to realize what happens when she acts badly. Not wanting to be locked up, she might stop behaving badly. If none of this works, I would ask my vet about some sort of stress and tension relieving solution. And always keep a water pistol handy, just in case.

At 8 years of age I am assuming that they were spayed years ago and are not in heat. That would have been my first response,
Take them to the Vet. Could be that the smaller one is sick. Please don't think they have just turned on each other for no reason!

My mom's cat did something similar. She had been coexisting with my mom's dog for 7 years. All of a sudden, one day, she attacked him. The vet said that the other animal could have done something to upset the cat, or that the cat went bonkers(sorry, harsh, I know). She recommended putting the cat on Prozac to help calm her down. Maybe that would help. I hope everything works out for you and your cats.

take your cat to the vet for a check up, she might be sick and in pain, thats why she is moody. give them special treats when you bring them out together, my cats love cooked chicken. have a water spray bottle ready and if it looks like they are about to fight give them a slight spray, cats hate water and will soon associate fighting with the water. cats sometimes do get a bit more moody as they get older. let the cats sleep in different rooms if they want, they might prefer to be apart at night. good luck with it all. cats, their worst than kids sometimes.

The vet could help you rule out potential medical causes and help you uncover the reason for the behavior.

One of the cats might be ill and not feeling like puting up with the other. Check them both for obvious signs of illness.
