The full form of IAS is Indian Administrative Services. IAS are the top level bureaucrats of the nation.
Collector/DM is an IAS, the secretory of various ministries are IAS.
To become an IAS one has to appear in Civil Services Examination. One can write this exam after completion of graduation.
There are three phases of this Exam
1st phase is prelims, this is objective type exam and in this exam there are two papers one is of general studies and another is optional subject.
If a candidate clears prelims than has to go for 2nd phase of exam
this is called Mains.
This is Descriptive Type.
In this one has to appear in two papers of general studies
two papers of first elective of optional
two papers of 2nd elective optional
one English, one Hindi and an Essay exam.
If candidate clears Mains then the candidate has to appear in an Interview.
Then based on consolidated marks obtained in Mains & Interview the marrit is prepaired. Toppers are granted IAS cadder, followed by IFS,IPS......., then other allied servises.
Thus IAS is tthe top cadder of beurocracy in India.
