To be completely honest the best is very difficult to propose for so many reasons we wont go there. Now the most supported and sometimes the easiest to own and use is not,Ipod.I would certainly say that it is the easiest to use ,get accessories for and if battery needs replacement you can get a battery for a small amount of cash and do it yourself. If all you wanna do is listen to music and not mess about there is no alternative. If you wanna mess about then get something else..This is my honest and personal opinion and doesn't reflect or diminish any other view however held...

I have 30g video Ipod and I can't live without it. I use it everyday to listen to music, watch my favorite episodes, and watch movies. It's great because you're not stuck with the same set up. You can go in and make changes as many times as you want. The only down side is the time you spend getting your playlists in order the way you like it. But I'll deal with it. :)

All with regard to the 30g video Ipod. you are able to the two purchase video from Itunes or upload dvd's on your laptop and covert them to MP4's with a application like instantaneous Handbrake. I deliver mine with me to paintings, hear to track all day, and at lunch I plug in the headphones and watch video clips or television exhibits. it is remarkable!

Try the best software I have seen AVS Video Tools.

It can convert to/from all key format, upload video or DVD directly to key portables like iPod, Sony PSP, Archos, Zen Creative, and mobiles.

It can capture video from DV or webcams, TV tuners, DVB-T, DVB-S, transfer VHS tapes to DVD, remove commercials, edit video, copy and burn DVDs and video files: AVI (DivX, XviD, etc.), MP4, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG 1,2,4, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, ASF, H.263, H.264, RM, DVR-MS.

There is the free download link:
