Yes, dogs and cats do have belly buttons. If you can convince a dog or cat to lie on their back for a bit, you'll find it in roughly the same area that humans have a belly button. The belly button, or umbilicus, represents the site where the umbilical cord attaches to the fetus during development. The umbilical cord transports blood between the fetus and the placenta. All eutherian or placental mammals have a placenta, and an umbilical cord. In the placenta the fetal circulation releases wastes in exchange for oxygen and nutrients from the mother. After the baby is born, the umbilical cord is usually tied off and cut. The stump attached to the baby falls off within a few days, leaving the belly button behind as the only reminder of life in utero.

Yes. As a breeder I know for a fact that dogs have them. They are like most of the people on here said... more of a spot than a "button". When the mother gives birth she chews it down as low as possible. My dogs were almost obsessive about this. It heals quickly and most of the time is nearly undetectable.
However, some dogs get an umbilical hernia (aka "delayed closure"). This tends to look more like an "outie" belly button. "Delayed closures" are just that. There is an area in the abdominal wall where the great vessels of the umbilical cord exit the body of the fetus to derive nutrition and oxygen from the placenta. After birth, these vessels close and shrink up. There is left behind a small area in the midline where the vessels formerly escaped the body.
Hope this helps!

;Yes dogs have belly buttons. Where their umbilical cord was attached. Right in the middle of their belly. Is hard to see on some dogs if the have a hairy belly. On some breeds that have a bare belly, you should be able to see it. It isn't an innie or an outie like ours. Is more like a dimple or a circle. Can still see it on most all puppies.

They sure do! Just like you cats, dogs, horses, and giraffes are all placental mammals. Placental mammals develop inside their mother. Nutrients, oxygen, and wastes are exchanged between the developing embryo and the mother through a placenta. An umbilical cord connects the embryo to the placenta. The navel or belly button is where the umbilical cord was attatched to the young placental mammal. So even though you may not notice it unless you look very carefully, dogs and cats do, indeed, have belly buttons.

Dogs have belly buttons.
Most mammals (except the few that lay eggs like the platypus) have belly buttons. A belly button is where the embilical cord was attached.

Yes, dogs have belly buttons. All placental mammals -- from mice to men -- have them. They need them to obtain nutrition from their mothers while in the womb. (Non-placental mammals, such as kangaroos and opossums, feed their animals inside a pouch. Monotremes, like the duck-billed platypus and spiny anteater, are oddballs of the mammal world because they lay eggs.
The dig's belly button should be about half way between the rib cage and the hip bone. ``If you can't see it,'' says Dodson, ``you're not looking hard enough or it's too furry.''

All dogs have belly buttons as do all live-bearing creatures. That's where the umbilical cord was attached, which is how all babies are nourished in the womb.

All mammals have belly buttons but in cats and dogs they can be difficult to spot because they are far better healed than ours and are covered in hair.
