Back in the day liver and onions was a popular meal. It was put over white rice...people made a gravy with it and everything. Folks liked the protein and iron content of it, yet still ate it in moderation.
Nowadays, you have to be VERY careful about liver. Studies have found that the toxins found in the average liver heavily outweight the health benefits. It doesn't matter how it's prepared. It can make us really sick. That has a lot to do with the animals' diets.
I guess that's why we don't really hear about it anymore. (That and it's totally an acquired taste! - YUCK!)

Not sure about the advertisement, but I've heard several time's a freaky "fact". If you place raw liver in a refrigerator next to a glass of milk. The liver will VERY slowly move toward it!!!! Never tried it myself!

because its often too toxic to pass inspection, and little of it ends up in the market. Its the organ that had to process all of the growth hormones, steroids, and antibiotics the animal was pumped up with. Unsanitary conditions the animals are kept in create even more toxic load on the liver. Most of it cannot be sold. Thats why you might see a piece or two among the vast array of the rest of the animal meats

maybe because its a bit of an acquired taste. I eat meat in all meals but I have never been fond of liver. also in many countries its the poor man's meat (unless its goose liver or something), so liver is considered a poor meal compared to chicken/turkey/beef etc. I am sure liver pate's and all are advertised for, coz they are so French and all but no one will buy 'liver kebobs' etc. I have seen ads for steak and kidney pie though! hmmm.... you have set me thinking!

People are tending not to eat the cheaper cuts of meat anymore. It's a shame cos liver is cheap and tasty (in my opinion) . I posted a similar question the other week and peoples responses were generally along the lines of "Offal is disgusting blah blah". I think it should be promoted, however people tend not to get their meat from butchers anymore. They like their meat pre-packed and not looking like animal!

I had never thought about it until now! It is under advertised but it could be because it is unpopular or they have it in short supply. I personally love the stuff when it is cooked correctly! Not everyone knows how to make it tender and tasty. They seem to know how to do it everywhere in Wisconsin!

It seems that most people don't like it--but I love it. One of my favorites is chicken livers. I also like beef or pork liver. Are you a liver lover?

Although good for you, most people don't like the smell or taste of liver. You couldn't pay me to eat it!

The liver is a filter that catches impurities, why would anyone want to eat that? Also kidneys, brains-yuck

Why is it even sold???? It's a "sweet meat" as is the heart, kidney, etc. It really isn't good for your diet (except for the iron content, available in a variety of other foods) and it tastes terrible (barf).
