It's nonsense to say that you shouldn't drink and eat at the same time, it's an outdated rule from the time when people didn't know their biochemistry. In fact, it's essential to take in enough fluid either before or during your meal, because digesting food actually uses up water.

You can eat and drink together at a meal. Sometimes one needs to "wash down" a bite. At least to help "wet your whistle". Just as long as you don't get all filled up on liquids, and eat a good portion of your meal, drinking a beverage with your meal is okay. Soup, is mostly liquid. One just needs to chew the bites of food in it, but it's mainly a liquid. Hope this helps. Take care.

It's best to take liquids before eating and filling the stomach with food that takes longer to digest. (Likewise, fruit should always be eaten on an empty stomach, because it's digested very quickly). This is why soup is served as a first course, so that it can go on down, out of the way! It's OK to sip the wine whilst eating of course, as this aids digestion!! :)

The health food people will tell you not to eat and drink together, but I wouldn't worry about it, for the most part.
