Fabulous - so you know we're having this little drought thing in Australia? Well, if we could like do some digging around the old Nile Delta and find some evidence of how farming was done before there was rain, we could not only solve the problem, but make ourselves a shed load of money! Anyone got a shovel?

The book of Genesis indicates that prior to the time of Noah, the earth was covered with a "firmament" which separated the waters above it from the waters below. It appears to have been some type of water vapor barrier, similar to "greenhouse effect". This would have caused a defussion on light, so that the condition needed for rainbows would not have existed. It also states that prior to the flood, it did not rain, but that the earth was watered by a mist that came out of the ground during the night.
So the Bible actually does present an answer to the rainbow question within its text.

Astute question.
Isn't this about the same time that god was purported to have altered something about the planet that caused lifespans to shorten? If so, then it may have been the removal of an atmospheric barrier of some type which filtered out particular harmful rays from the sunlight. If only one band of visible light was getting through it probably wouldn't be able to appear as a rainbow, but only as a slight colour haze. Assume the barrier filtered out everything except red light... Then the light coming through the prism would be the same red as the direct light, rendering it effectively invisible.
If you believe in this bible stuff, that is. It is possible to come up with an argument to justify pretty much everything in the bible. It is also possible to come up with an answer to justify the existence of the FSM, so if I were you I would take any explanation - including mine - with a very large pinch of salt.

According to christians, nothing.
Yep, they honestly believe that light was not refracted by water droplets before the end of the flood.
They really are utter morons.

Nothing, the 'ice shield' or 'water shield' prevented the effect. And get this: it never rained. Water magically rose from the ground as vapour.

i asked a similar question before... i think it's simply impossible to not have a rainbow if they had a prism before.
