it should be noted that he has never mated before. i dont get it. and on the other hand im not sure what is supposed to happen. he tried... every time he got on top at some point it wasnt working and he stopped. he is 3 years old. is it him or the female? she was willing... she didnt complain and was rubbing herself constantly on him. my dog was bored at some point. so now im lost.... we tried 3 times. whats wrong?

when exactly is the female dog's heat? we had her brought on the 11,12,and 14th day after she had her period. is that too soon or too late?

A lot of things can be causing it. Sometimes the female doesn't like the male, Mine was like that I had to buy her a husband. Maybe the female wasn't ready..She should have been in her prime somewhere between th 10-12 day of her heat cycle. The male is not experience. You can try this have the owner of the female keep the female still and you when the male mounts her gently lay you hand on him to study him. Some times they just need help in that department. I had to do that once. This is one of the down size of breeding sometimes it takes sometimes it doesn't. sometimes you need to leave them together for a long time. Sometimes when they bring a female over to my place it may take hours, sometimes only minutes. Once I didn't think it was ever going to happen. The owners of the female went to lunch no sooner did they pull out of the drive way the dogs matted.
You might want to read a book on studding you dog. Maybe you can find out some ideas on what to do. You didn't' say how long the dog was in heat.. going out on her third week it may be unlikely she will accept him.

did you take him to her or her to him. sometimes they will not mate unless they are in a comfortable place. it is best for him to be in his own home and you not watching.
