I want to use whitening strips but I've heard your gums can become sensitive to tea (I won't give up my tea). Is it true for all whitening strips?

Usually. But it is temporary. Try a toothpaste like Sensodyne while you are whitening.

I've used them and found my TEETH (not gums) to become sensitive. The reason being that your teeth are porous so over time substances build up and fill in those surface holes, which make your teeth less sensitive. When you whiten your teeth, these holes are getting cleared out and thus they become sensitive.

FYI, there are toothpastes specificially for sensitive teeth that you could try, for example Sensodyne (http://us.sensodyne.com/).
