If your child is in a normal, only Acdemics school it may be because he or she is bored. It can also stream from the fact that the child can't comprehend that is being taught in the school. Often it happens that the child does not have any of those facts called Learning disability or ADHD or ADD.But people try to believe in those technical terms as that takes away the guilt feeling.
My spouse is a teacher and a very well known one in turning around those kids labelled with ADHD,ADD or learning disability. Most of the cases she took up with such kids she used to analyze the kid with his or her type of learning styles. and then work upwards. One must Comprehend the fact that all the children do not have the same sort of grasping power. Also that it is a great jump from the Kindergarden stage to the class 1 or Class 2 schemes. Often there is no co-ordination between the Kinder garden teachers and the Class 1 teachers and when the class involvs about 40 students God help the teacher He / she doesn't have the time energy or tenacity to give individual attention to the child.
You must bear in mind the Schooling is not like Frozen food. You too have to give the child enough time during his studies at home. With out the Child understanding that his parents are also interested in his studies why the hell should he study.

There could be many reasons why.
The answer for most is...."O, well..he has ADD or ADHD". This is the first answer for these symptoms in children. It is not always the right one. Children deal with things in there own way. Assuming that the home life for the child is structured and there are no traumatic things going on/in/or around the child's life..... Try getting the child tested by a qualified physician that deals with children. The child may have a form of Autism. One in 150 children are diagnosed with a form of autism. The autistic spectrum disorders would be a good place to start. Across the spectrum you have many criteria that a child could fall into. Not just Autism but other forms that branch off into what is called PDD and (ADD and ADHD too) other forms of social and learning disabilities that a child may show signs of, but with the proper channeling and special attention (special-ed teachers)DURING school hours (when it counts most) they can over come it.....maybe even surpass the other students. Try to do as they suggested.....getting him into a after school activity...that wouldn't hurt either.

If I was you I would have your son tested for learning disabiltities. It doesn't mean he has ADHD. Everytime someone say my child doesn't pay attention everyone thinks that. We went though this with my son. He has a processing disorder. And a recall disorder. He didn't pay attention in school becuase he wasn't understanding what he was suppose to be learning. So of to space he went. He is in 4th grade now and is doing much better but he does get resources at school. He just doesn't learn the same as everyone else. Children with LD usually have lower self esteem that they don't try anything any more so there not good at sports and stuff. And to say he's not smart. most children with learning disabiltites have a higher IQ. There are lot of internet sites for learning disabilities. Check out some on Processing disorder. My son's is Central Autory Processing disorder. He hears fine just his brain doesn't understand what it is hearing. Good luck to you. Keep on the school and get him tested the earlier you find out something is wrong the better for him.

First of all, try to look at it from the child's point of view. Practise for a while, to keenly just observe him, keeping aside all judgements, or conclusions. Just observation. That way, it is almost possible to think the child's way. The idea is to find out the child's priorities. Obviously, the child has no visible deficiencies looking at the details of the question. It is just that the child has not taken notice of the 'concern' of the asker about "what should have been the child's priority" !
When we get to know what are the things the child likes, it is easier to know why and how he likes. Then the task is much easier and least painful to shift the child's priorities to match the future well being (that is studies, sports, arts etc)!
Best wishes.

Few 7 years old children are still attched to mother care and the house atmosphere cannot encourage them to concentrate on studies. Natural process has to make them understand the importance of school and studies and if they are playful in nature, let them. The pressure on them either to go to school and do home works and all that we want and desire does spoil children and expectations go wrong. Take care of children at veryn young age only. Thety have a long life to go and time is there to learn more at leisure hours. Why 7 year old childl is to be put cross scissors and do not be a child for at least one year more.

Hello
Your son might suffer with Attention deficit disorder.
This is also called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). People with this disorder have severe difficulty in focusing and maintaining attention. They display characteristics of inattentiveness, impulsiveness, and hyperactivity. This disorder often leads to learning and behavior problems at home and at school.
Take him to Psychiatrist.

sounds to me like you need to take extra time with him on these things. some kids learn slower than others and just learn differently than others. don't ever say that he's not smart or he will just give up trying all together. you need to have a lot of patience with him and work together with him to show that you care and want to help him through this. maybe he needs a tutor. let him know that you have confidence in him and that he CAN do it. maybe all he needs is a little support.

Well, seven years is also my son. It is the age of big changes. They come from Kindergarden to Grade 1. They were always used to play, and now comes the learning.
In the first semenster, my son really also had bad results in class, but now, slowely by slowely, he start to realise and adapt.

Give him a chance.
