Omen is normally a sign, a prediction of something good or bad. These days it has more of a positive meaning than a bad. For example... if you break a mirror, it brings bad luck. Banging heads together by an accident, might be a sing of love... etc

It means that they think that something is telling the future. Like, there was a scene in 'Sleepless in Seattle' where the wedding dress was damaged so the bride took it as a sign that maybe she wasn't supposed to get married. Also, there was a scene in 'APollo 13' where a woman's wedding ring fell down a drain, and it later turned out that her husband was in danger of dying. Superstitious people connect little incidents like this to the big incidents, and the little incidents are called omens.

Omen means indication of the future of something or somebody.
what an omen means what kind of fate for that something or for that someone. It denotes symphaty to the one who died by car accident mysteriously that the dead person was torn to pieces and his bones were scattered away or maybe his body was eaten by the animals before he was found.
It is the fortune that happens to you whether you like it or not

It means that something that happened is a sign of things like it will come. But I find that's just superstition.
