For example last night i wasnt well, i grabbed a duvet and sat on the bathroom floor. I was very tired, i started falling asleep while sitting against the wall (no i wasnt drunk!) Amber (my german shepard) opened the bathroom and touched her nose to mine to make sure i was breathing. I woke and gave her a big hug. She checks on me when im sick and hugs me when im down. How can a dog behave in a better way.

i also have a lab/ shepard i call her a germadour leperd. She not as loyal as amber but is only 1. My last dog was a black german shepard and the bond with him was also amazing. I do count myself lucky.

You are a lucky person to have such a bond with your dog. Many dogs of many different breeds have done similar acts and personally I think it is down to the bond between the person and their dog rather than the breed.
All my dogs comfort me when I'm sad and down too.

The best dog I ever had was a german shepard. So loyal and intelligent. When we went out it used to nudge the kids together with it's shoulder so it could protect them. Very friendly dog. If I ever felt down it would sit there with it's head on my knee, staring at me until I smiled. Then it would grin too. Did you know their average IQ is 70+. That's higher than some people.

Dogs in general are amazing creatures. I have a German Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix and WOW...I never knew anything could be so smart. She knows commands in three languages, opens doors, pushes snooze on the alarm, and can manipulate any person. GSD are almost to smart for their own good. Ours is a great protector. Not just of us, but the whole neighborhood, and she is an inside dog. So I know what you are talking about. My only pet peeve, is ours is so very stubborn.

Lucky you. I don't have a dog but if I did it would be a German Shepard. I saw one yesterday that was all black, most gorgeous dog I've ever seen.

Shepherd's are the best - I have 3 of them! Mummy Daddy and Baby. Their names are Sasha, Boddington and Bronson.

Sasha is the most intelligent dog I know, I have 2 others as well but she is definitely the boss!

Dogs relate very much to their owners who they love and trust.German shepherds(Alsatians) can be very affectionate ,especially bitches, and they seem to know the mood that you are in and react accordingly. The bad news that sometimes refers to dog behaviour is nearly always down to the way they have been raised and trained(if at all).A number of other breeds of dogs also can behave in a very caring manner. I have known a lady with a spaniel who also acted similarly to your Amber.Wishing you lots of happy times together.

Best dog I ever had was a shepherd/husky. So yeah...I have to agree. I have a hard time not bursting into tears when I see shepherd's I miss her so much. I want to get one as soon as we buy a house, but everyone tells me not to get another shepherd because no dog could live up to my expectations and be as special as she was. I'm willing to risk it though, they are the best.

Yes yes yes! German Shepherds are the very best in the world.

All the best, Mranda, still mourning the loss of her wonderful GSD.

I gotta agree! I have a shepard/St.Bernard mix and he is the best! He is 11 years old now, but still going strong. I love shepards.

What actually, because the best dog in the world is a very personal decision. Your dog is obviously devoted to you, and you to both your dogs. It's great that you recognise that dogs need love as much as we do - you are being repaid for your devotion to yours.
