It itself is not a part of quality but provides a mechanism through which you can define the quality, grading and reach to conclusions in terms of the overall acceptance level for the Software. For e.g the no of errors/bugs etc are used in these.

It also is a quality assurance practice as the test cases and other deliverables given to the client, give an impression that all the tests had been done on the Software based on the requirements to assure the Quality of the Software to be good and production effective.

It is part of quality control however Quality assurance comes by following better and efective process.

SQA is done side by side at the starting phases of the SDLC whereas SQC is the Testing done be the testing team after the coding is done.
