attractive in their stylized way? Shouldn't there be a healthier mix of beauty and ugliness like in real life? I want to see one of a 400 pound guy full of acne with stink lines coming from his pits. Do you think the avatars promote an unrealistic standard of beauty?

Absolutely not, handsome. Some of us are just really good-looking.

Yeah they do. Yahoo is always trying to manipulate our psychology through subliminal tactics. The avatars are a perfect example. More attractive avatars, means more people will be answering questions. You know that Hot Carl. You don't have a computer generated image, but you have a picture of Carl Sagan looking his best. You no doubt realize that it increases responses to your questions. I dare you to replace Sagan with a "400 pound guy full of acne with stink lines coming from his pits".

Well, you're a perfect example yourself of someone using a phony avatar. You're probabaly a fat turd, yourself, too, but the only thing these avatars promote is deception, and that's got nothing to do with beauty. My avatar looks as close to me as I could make it - but I still look better than it . Now that's beauty. Can you say the same thing, dead atheist?

Uh i think this is an issue of being EASY for the animators. I mean yes you can have an ogre but wouldn't it be EASIER for the programmers and animators to give you like 4 choices and you just mix and match?

Actually, I have more hair than this irl. But they don't provide a close-cropped avatar, so you could say mine is a bit uglier than the real me.

But then you haven't seen me...

And some would say that real bald is too cool for school...

Yes, but who wants to portray themselves as ugly? This way people can present an idealized version of themselves, or just try out a new haircut.

true it may be but one is to be reminded that our Father sees not only the true beauty of our soul but too of the way of us in protecting our mother gift of flesh to us.

I daren't use my actual portrait as an avatar, as my e-mail would be flooded with girls seeking sexual favours. I can't cope as it is!!!
