thinking I might want to isolate b4 I get her spayed at about 7 months

yup my puppy came into season in the 8th month of the first year but it depends on the dog !! you will know when it starts as dogs will take a intrest and she will allow it in fact she will love it..lol, and her bit's will become swollen thats one of the first signs! followed by BLOOD spots and can last anything up to two weeks on the first one!

You should have her spayed before the first heat. This will be a much better help in preventing cancer. After the first heat, the cancer risks are almost identical regardless of whether the dog is spayed.

They can't get pregnant unless they are in heat. You can recognize that by checking if their ah-hem rear end is swollen and they bleed (like a woman's menstruation). AS everyone mention before 6 months is rare and in some breed over a year is common.

Length of time can vary from 6 mths upto over a year. Ask the breeder when her mother first came in as that can be an indication.

Its usually somewhere around 6 months, can be as early as 5 or as late as 9 or even older.

it depends, some pups go into heat anywhere from six to nine months for their first heat
