Actually, braces are for straightening crooked teeth and you wouldn't get them for just an overbite. You would get some kind of headgear, retainer, or bionator to wear for several hours every day. There's really no 'shortest time' you can have orthodontic appliances on....the doctor will just have you leave them on for as long as they need to be there.

Add-on: Just so we're all on the same page, an overbite is where the tips of your teeth do not touch together correctly when they close and the front ones stick out farther than the back ones...simple braces will not fix the problem. An overbite is actually a misallignment of the jaw, not the teeth, although it is very common to have both an overbite and crooked teeth.

I disagree with those that say braces aren't for an overbite. I had an over bite as a teen. Other than that my teeth were straight. I wore braces for two years.

It takes as much time as you make it. They will give you a small retainer wich isn't very vissable, the more you wear it the more you will improve, I know because I did the same thing.
