Just sound very confident in your "facts" and offer people what they want to hear -- or that you can *save* them from something they *don't* want to hear. That combination should get thousands of followers. It has, so far. David Koresh and Jim Jones knew how to do it; they might be good models. Heaven's Gate founders Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles are worth a look, too, if only to see what people will believe, and how little you'll have to work to come up with a story.

And here's a much more recent one: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/16/miami.preacher/
Pastor with 666 tattoo claims to be divine.

Charisma and confidence are more important than your message, as long as you remember to play off people's fears and hopes. So don't knock yourself out coming up with a logical story.

Pay no heed to those who {derogatory snickering} use science or reason to try to expose you. You'll find *plenty* of gullible people.

Incidentally, you're off to a good start with the capital M in "My." Keep it!

Helpful tip: be vague when asked a question you cannot logically answer, or when answering truthfully would expose your dogma's fallacies. Distract the questioner with proprietary words (a la Scientology), shame & guilt, complex arguments nobody can follow, ideas nobody can readily dismiss, and fear -- lots of fear. (By 'readily' I mean without thinking. Don't worry if *ten minutes* of research could undermine your ideas. Most people who long to believe in something will not spend more time than that to learn the truth.)

Go for it. But starting your religion is the easy bit. A tougher part is to recruit believers. And the toughest part is to get them to contribute cash to your noble and holy cause.

It helps if you can work up a few miracles. You know, heal some lepers. turn Budweiser into Guinness, prophecize the the end of the world, that sort of thing. It doesn't hurt to wear robes and sandals all the time and call everybody brother or sister. Good luck.

You can. Others have done it relatively recently.
You'd have to do a lot of planning, to get all your lies in a convincing form, convincing enough to fool those gullible enough to WANT to believe in your nonsense - and there are plenty in the US.
Instill fear as a major player. Make promises of eternal life, whether in the reward end of the scale, a paradise, or in the punishment area, eternal pain sort of thing. Fabricate a god-figure, who MUST be invisible, who is NEVER heard and who seems to ignore everything that is happening. Hey - pretend that it is YOU. Grow a long white beard (wear a fake one like Santa Claus?) and wear some toga-like robes. Learn some 'magic' tricks so that you can perform 'miracles'. Tell everyone of the miracles that you have done already. Employ some stooges to pretend to be cripples and you can magically heal them.
Yeah - I know - it's been done before but imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, as Mohammed discovered. Let's face it - all current popular religions are quite successful in attracting the foolish and, the best trick, are all self-perpetuating!!! Just keep on brainwashing the kids!
Hey - you could take his Mohammed's) policies several steps further. If you are sex-obsessed, as many of these cult religions turn out to be, you could insist that all girls of age 9 or over are your sole property as sex-slaves ... just let your fantasies go bananas!
Don't forget, keep filling the kids' heads with the repeated nonsense. Tell kids often enough and they will be totally stuffed. Seems that there will be plenty of kids with all the copulation going on, so you can claim that it is a really fast-growing religion.

Or not.
Best not.
We are in enough trouble with religion as it is without another thorn in our sides.

Best suggestion is to promote atheism amongst your circle of friends and colleagues. Much more satisfying. Not so much sex but that's not necessarily true. I manage OK thanks.

first hire 1000 christain preachers, bribe them so that they stop preaching about Jesus, but start preaching about you, you being the God himself , you have already shown 100 miracles like bringing back a dead boy to life ,etc

In the mean time learn to perform some magics

Advertise in google adwords (so that when someone searched for God, link to your website appears on top)

Come up with ten commandments
like thy shall have sex thrice a day (I can help you making the commandments as long you are ready to pay me $$$$)

Come up with some different set of rituals, like people hold each others dick to greet

Contact me if you are really serius to start a new religion

First of all, create your own mythology, you can take ideas from the others religions established and science fiction tales, mix them and serve them for your followers if you can put it down, better.

Then you have to look for followers so your mythology should be good enough to be taken seriously. Remember, all you want to do it is to save these poor people souls.

Good luck

Read about how other religions were started. Charles Russel started the Jehovah's Witnesses. Joseph Smith started the Mormon church.

Make up some kind of "message" and find a group of gullible people looking for "answers". Works better if you find the people first and then tailor your message to their needs. Don't forget to take a course in public speaking.

Islam
Concept of Allah The God
1. Allah (SWT) 'God' is only 'One', has no partner or son, and neither gives birth, nor is He born. He is eternally besought by all and has no beginning or end, and none is equal to Him (Holy Quran example)
2. He is the Merciful and the Compassionate, the Guardian and the True Guide, the Just and the Supreme Lord, the Creator and the Watchful, the First and the Last, the Knowing and the Wise, the Hearing, and the Aware, the Witness and the Glorious, the Able and ' the Powerful. (Holy Quran example).
3. He is the Loving and the Provider, the Generous and the Benevolent, the Rich and the Independent, the Forgiving and the Clement, the Patient and the Appreciative, the Unique and the Protector, the Judge and the Peace. (Holy Quran example). The question of Allah's (SWT) 'God' existence has preoccupied men's minds for many centuries. Those who believe in Allah (SWT) 'God' seem to agree that the limited finite human intelligence cannot prove the existence of the infinite boundless of Allah (SWT) 'God'. It can only illustrate or demonstrate his existence to the satisfaction of the curious human mind.
Those who deny Allah's (SWT) 'God' claim to rely on science, philosophy, or special theories of knowledge. Their arguments are sometimes inapplicable, sometimes irrelevant, always complex, and often incomprehensible. However, the developed mind will find its way to Allah (SWT) 'God'. Failure to find the way does not mean that there is no way. Denial of reality does not make it unreal.

Who is Muhammad pbuh
In the desert of Arabia was the Prophet Muhammad (SAAWS) born, according to Muslim historians, on April 20, 571 . The name means "highly praised". He is to me the greatest mind among all the sons of Arabia. He means so much more than all the poets and kings that preceded him in that impenetrable desert of red sand. When he appeared Arabia was a desert -- a nothing. Out of nothing a new world was fashioned by the mighty spirit of the Prophet Muhammad (SAAWS) -- a new life, a new culture, a new civilization, a new kingdom which extended from Morocco to Indies and influenced the thought and life of three continents -- Asia, Africa and Europe.
And more wonderful still is what the reverend Bosworth Smith remarks:
" Head of the state as well as the Church, he was Caesar and Pope in one; but, he was pope without the pope's claims, and Caesar without the legions of Caesar, without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without a palace, without a fixed revenue. If ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by a right divine It was Muhammad, for he had all the power without instruments and without its support. He cared not for dressing of power. The simplicity of his private life was in keeping with his public life."

What is Islam
The word "Islam" is an Arabic word which means "submission to the will of God "Allah - SWT". This word comes from the same root as the Arabic word "salam", which means "peace". As such, the religion of Islam teaches that in order to achieve true peace of mind and surety of heart, one must submit to Allah (SWT) and live according to His Divinely revealed Law. The most important truth that Allah (SWT) revealed to mankind is that there is nothing divine or worthy of being worshipped except for Almighty Allah (SWT), thus all human beings should submit to Him. The word "Muslim" means one who submits to the will of Allah (SWT), regardless of their race, nationality or ethnic background.
Being a Muslim entails willful submission and active obedience to Allah (SWT), and living in accordance with His message. Some people mistakenly believe that Islam is just a religion for Arabs, but nothing could be further from the truth. Not only are there converts to Islam in every corner of the world, especially in England and America, but by taking a look at the Muslim World from Bosnia to Nigeria, and from Indonesia to Morocco, one can clearly see that Muslims come from many various races, ethnic groups and nationalities. It is also interesting to note that in actuality, more than 80% of all Muslims are not Arabs - there are more Muslims in Indonesia than in the whole Arab World! So though even though it is true that most Arabs are Muslims, the large majority of Muslims are not Arabs. However, anyone who submits completely to Allah (SWT) and worships Him alone is a Muslim.

What is Qur’an
The Arabic world "Al-Qur'an" literally means "the recitation". When used in regards to Islam, the word Qur'an means God's final message to mankind that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. The Qu'ran, sometimes spelled Koran, is the literal the word of God - as it clearly says time and time again. Unlike other sacred scriptures, the Qur'an has been perfectly preserved in both its words and meaning in a living language.

The Qu'ran is a living miracle in the Arabic language; and is known to be inimitable in its style, form and spiritual impact. God's final revelation to mankind, the Qur'an, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over a period of 23 years.
" When the Qur'an is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy. " Qur'an 7:204
'The revelation of THIS BOOK is from Allah, the Exalted in Power, full of Wisdon.' Qur'an 39:1
'And before this, was the Book of Moses as a guide and a mercy: And THIS BOOK confirms (it) in the Arabic tongue; to admonish the unjust, and as Glad Tidings to those who do right.' Qur'an 46:12
'Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.' Qur'an 2:185
