I've been having pain behind mye eyes or in my eyes (constant, worse as the day goes by), can't really put my finger on where it is. It feels like someone's poking my eyes from behind or someone's holding my optical nerve with a clamp. And there's a general soreness around my whole eye. Usually it doesn't affect any other areas but lately the pain's been causing me headaches and sometimes i get shooting pains behind my eyes that will cause pain in the head directly behind my ears, or to the top of my head or my neck. Ive been to an eye doctor who took my pressure and checked my eyes and said everything looked fine, he thought it might be related to sinus or neck problems (always have a stiff neck). Im currently almost done my dose of antibiotics (novamin?) and no problems in the xrays for my neck. Im just very frustrated and confused because no one seems to know what's wrong.
I also have bad teeth as 1 of my molars need root canal (no toothache), does anyone have a clue??

Sometimes being an informed patient means you have to do some of your own leg-work. We are not medically trained and neither is the internet. However, there are a few medical websites that are actually accurate. Mayo Clinic is one of the best. Also, you may have to go to several different doctors. You won't know if someone is good or helpful until you see them. If they care about you and want to help or see you get well, then that's a good doc. It's not uncommon to get more than one opinion. Go for a neuro-ophthalmologist or a neurologist. They can always give referrals or you can ask for referrals from various hospitals in your area. To answer you actual questions on optic neuritis, you need to see one of those two docs I mentioned. I would never tell you whether or not you have the illness or if it could cause what's happening to you because I'm not medically trained and have no way of examining, testing, diagnosing or treating you.

A drug-free solution is easy and feels great.
Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.
The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.
You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.
You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

OK, get the tooth fixed first as that can affect your sinus's which can cause that kind of pain due to infection and inflammation. There is so much that can be going on with this it is almost impossible to start to state what. If you get a sinus infection it can lead to orbital cellulitis which can be deadly.
Other then that it could very well be something to do with the CNS (central nervous system) which should be checked out by having an MRI and you need to be seen by a neurologist.
Also have blood work done to rule out sinus, diabetes and what ever else the doctor can figure out.

Some of the answers so far may hint at a source, but I would also have your eyes checked. Could be onset of Glaucoma - which could lead to blindness. It happened to me and I lost some patches in both eyes because of optic nerve damage. Unfortunately it is not reversible.
Go get your eyes checked!!!

I suffer from chronic Migraines, and it sounds like you do to. Ibuprofin may help some but you may want to ask the doctor to try imetrex or migranol, neither are narcotics and both are widely used to treat migraines, as are some seizure meds. as a daily preventitive. Good Luck too you!
