Yes. I was watching this talk show a long time ago and a psychologist had bi-polar disorder. She even wrote a book about it. I think that some of the best psychologists and psychiatrists are ones that have a mental disorder because they can understand and relate more with their patients.

Of course. They aren't robots, they are people, and have the same things every one else has. They can have mental disorders and diseases, as long as they don't interfer with their work.
In fact, I think, alot of the time it's good if they have some experience personally with mental disorders because it leads to further understanding.

Doctors suffer from cancer, heart attacks, flu... so why can't psychologists etc suffer from mental issues? I know of at least one schizophrenic psychiatrist. My psychologist has anxiety problems - she has a rolling prescription of benzodiazepines.
I worked as a crisis line counsellor, and I have psychotic anxiety. I did find helping other people helped me.

yes, we had a psychologist for my children and she suffered severe depression. she needed a light monitor in her home to help keep her from being too depressed and she took medicine. guess there is no rule on if you can be ill yourself and still help those that are ill.

Of course they can! They are human beings too they are prone to mental illnesses as well as any other human being can be. Its not like they are given supernatural powers that can stop them from mental illness.

Uh... yeah! They're human too. Imperfect and flawed just like everyone else. They're just not as open about it because they have to appear professional.
