a person can CLAIM to be anything they want.
It's up to you to evaluate that claim yourself.

Many people clam to be a christian and they may think they are. when someone is truly a christian and they start living that way it is very evident. Most people that have excepted Jesus, as soon as they get saved call themselves Christians but still have a lot of growing to do in there walk with God no matter how long we have been a christian we never stop growing and understanding and we will make many mistakes in our walk.
A christian should watch his brother and if a brother in Christ is not doing right he should confront him and have a good heart to heart talk. I guess what I'm saying is the person your talking about is not the only one a fault here, so are the Christian brothers around him for not getting together and confronting him, we should reach out to our brothers that go astray and let them know what there doing wrong, we are accountable for each other.( Talk to him with other church leaders and pray with him, and for him even when your alone)

Let me think about it. For some reason, I'm seeing Ted Haggard in my mind...
Maybe because many conservative Christians pretend to follow a particular code of moral conduct and preach this to the masses with the threat of hellfire, while secretly behaving like the rest of us clods.
And not all Christians believe in the same moral guidelines. Casanova was as strong of a Christian as he was a lover. It's a philosophy, and it's subject to change with every person. It's arrogant to presume otherwise.

This person is not a Christian. There are many proclaimed heathen Christians who go to church on Sunday and live like the devil the rest of the week. You described what the catholics do. If this person you described was a true born again Christian who only followed the True Gospel of Jesus Christ, then the lifestyle you just described would not sit well with them.

Happens all the time. Some feel that if they profess to be Christian they won't get into trouble and everyone will believe what they say. Just like your friend here. If you don't believe them, then call them on it. If they deny it again, oh well. It's between them and God.

People who are addicted to things often desire to live the way they should but are constrained by their fears and habits. They do believe in Jesus but they don't know how to act any differently than they have all their lives. It takes a great deal of prayer and support for these people to overcome their addictions. They probably think less of themselves than you do. 12 step programs are sometimes the best way to help them re-think their lives and guide them to a better behavior pattern.

Ezekiel 18:20
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
James2:24
Ye see then how that by works a man is just
Matthew 19:16-17
"And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?"
"And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments."
Jas 2:26

sIts good you use the word "claim" because that tell you that they are not Christians but claimed to be one. But at the same time, they are "flesh" and are therefore susceptible to sin like everyone else

Christians are sinners too.
Bible says that if you say you have no sin in your life, you lie & the truth is not in you.
All sin. Which fits the definition of sinner, not christian.
He/she is probably afraid. Hence, the lies.

Not all those who claim to be Christian are and those things that are hidden shall, one day, surely come to light. If they repent and turn from their ways they will be forgiven. If they don't...
