It means the book has a paper cover. It is usually a lot smaller too. Hard cover is the other kind of description and it means there is a very hard cover of thickened cardboard-type substance. Hard covers are larger, far more weighty, and far more expensive. Go to a bookstore or library and ask the clerk to show you the difference between the two. You can tell when you see and feel the 2 covers. Good luck!!

Ooooops! I`m a bit late answering your question, aren`t I?
I was making some tea in the kitchen.
Would you like a cup?
I think we`re alone now you and me...
Let`s make the most of it by making fun of all the other answers, what do you say buddy?
Only kidding (lol)!!!
Anyways, like all the other bright sparks out there said, a paperback book cover is a lot softer and a lot less solid or sturdy than a hardback cover.
Therefore a paperback book will cost you a lot less than its hardback equivalent and is likely to last quite a few years less than a hardback too!
Hope this helps!
Take care!

I agree with the first answer, moreover, some high quality paperback books have more tough binding by sewing the pages at its binding before pasting special glue at the spine on which its paperback is attached with its front and back cover.

Paper Cover - Thing book cover, paper like, most likely will tear up or bend, if in heavy use will loose its pleasant appearance.
Hard Cover - Thick book covers, hard and robust, can take punishment in your back pack.

What she said: Books with paper covers, not hard-bound cases.
These are less expensive than the others.

It is the books that have a paper cover, not the hard firm covers. It is simply that , it has a paper front and back, opposed to the hard cover front or back.

Those are the books that dont have the hard cover on them. If you knock on a soft cover you cant hear anything, but on a hard cover you can, cause its hard. lol
