scam first they would not just be contactng you or anyone by email. next all government emails come from a .gov address.

Next there is not a "federal investigator" there are FBI investigators, Federal Marshalls and the such.

There may be a private investagator who works for a private company claiming something, but most likely a fraud. What did they want or ask ?

I'd believe it was a fraud if I were you. I typed in anti fraud department u.s.a. in google and I got something showing where to email the actual department. If it wasn't a fake it would be at usa.com, not freedom.usa.com. I also went to www.freedom.usa.com and that is a travel site.

If the email address (and full header information) is not from an address at at something".gov" then you should be skeptical.

When in doubt, contact whatever government agency is listed in the email directly -- DO NOT clink on any link in the email.

It sure does sound like a scam. If the federal whatever wants to get in touch with you they send you a registered posted letter rather than a freaky mail!!!!!!!

I"m sure its a scam. if those people really wanted to contact you it would not be threw e mail. they would try with a phone or job or in person. sounds like your okay and that is a scam. plus how would they even know your e mail and if you even checked it?

It's a scam! They would never ever approach someone via email and their email address would end in gov, not usa.com or anything else for that matter.
