Are you allowed to use your ipod inflight. I have heard on previous flights that you have to turn digital equipment off. But the ipod has no off facility

It is a regulation that all electronic equipment including ipods are turned off for the phases of take off and landing, primarily because of the fact that these are the most critical phases of a flight and therefore the most likely time there could be a potential emergency which would require an announcement to be made.
In the past, people have not heard vital information because they have had earphones on. Once the seatbelt sign goes off, it is acceptable to use any electronic equipment (providing it does not have an active wireless connection) including ipods.

You are fine to use ipods in-flight. You just have to turn them off for take off and landing. You can also use laptops, dvd players, psp's, gameboys etc. The big no no is obviously mobile phones x

Yes you can use it. I fly several times a month and use an ipod. You just have to turn it off during takeoff and landing.

During takeoff and landing you can't listen to it, however, inflight you can.

They're more concerned with smartphones and anything that requires a "signal".

Yes, you just have to wait until they say you can use small electrical devices. I used mine in flight because their movies usually stink. You can play music, games, or videos while you fly. Helps a lot when you are bored in the terminal too. Have a great flight!!!
