The biggest misconception with comparing amps for sound quality is the fact that watts are watts are watts. The only difference is the THD (total harmonic distortion) which to most people is unnoticed in small increments.

If I had amp "A" and amp "B" and both put out 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohm (0.01% THD), one wouldn't sound better than the other.

Rememer, for every doubling of power, you only get a 3dB gain.

The fact is unless you find someone who's listened to both amplifiers in otherwise identical systems, in a way where he could directly compare the two by switching quickly back and forth, you will not get a useful answer to this question.

They're both very good amps. The Rockford is rated for 1-ohm loads but puts out less power than the Alpine in a 4-ohm load. Pick the one that matches up best with your application.
