There's an awful lot of rubbish talked about hypnotism. You cannot be hypnotised unless and until you are completely relaxed. You should only ever use the services of a qualified practitioner (check the credentials, because in fact, anyone can set him/herself up as a hypnotist without any qualifications at all!) You should also ask if they can help you with your specific problem before you book with them - some specialise in particular areas.
When you are under hypnosis, generally it will be light - you will know what is being said and you will feel in control at all times. Once some trust has been established and you are fully relaxed, it is possible then, with your consent, for the therapist to take you deeper into your subconscious - at this stage you may find that you do not remember much when you wake up but you should be left with a calm, relaxed feeling, like waking after a refreshing night's sleep.
Before I truly understood how hypnotism could work for me (I suffer from anxiety) i made the mistake of seeing a therapist who did not take the time to find out about me and my particular fears. The result was that one of the suggestions he made for relaxation was actually a trigger - it involved confronting a major fear and it induced a panic attack while under hypnosis. Therefore, ensure that your hypnotist is fully aware of your fears, phobias etc. I am sure you will find it a very useful tool in the box and I wish you luck.

Yes I had it done at the fair grounds where I am located. I did it just to be a part of the show. But o what a surprise I got . I cant belive what I did. It really did work. But for me I would not do it again. When I woke up I felt so different and scared my body felt very weird. I had to actually leave and go home. That is something just for fun I did cause I did not think it was real. I thought I was going to play along with it. But yes it is real and can happen. But I dont recommed someone to do it if not needed.

I've been hypnotised before, and it was fine, I felt very very relaxed. Its not like any that crazy stuff you see on TV where people start dancing like Michael Jackson!

When I was what used to be called a GP Trainee one of my trainers practised hypnotism. He put me under about 6 times, and said I was a good subject. He was trying to help me give up smoking. I always awoke relaxed and feeling good, but it didn't have any effect on my habit. Fortunately I gave up a few years later!

yep. i went to see one because of spiders. it was so bad that id cry if i saw one on tv.throw up if i saw one in the house, and i crashed my car on a roundabout coz there was a spider on my wing mirror and my window was open and i freaked out even though it was prob only the same size as my middle finger nail. 6 sessions later i was holding his chilean rose tarantella (prob spelt that wrong) anyway it worked, i mean there are some spiders now that i still wont touch or go by but im not afraid of being in the same room as them. my hypontist was like 'u can now live in harmoney with your fellow creature' but i had other ideas, now i can go near them i can kill the litlle sods

Hypnotism is just a state of complete relaxation and thoughtlessness (much like meditation) where suggestions can be given directly to your subconscious without interferance of your conscious mind. It is great. You are always fully in control and aware of what is going on and can never be told to do things you don't want to.

I was once. They tried to help conquer my fear, but after I was hypnotized, I was more paranoid than ever. Varies person to person, I remember everything, some people remember nothing, some people cant even relax enough for it.

My mom did a few years ago, In Minnesota, At Mall Of America. She chased invisable leprechauns for 2 hours.
Funny if you ask me.
But she doesn't remember snapping out of it, but my dad and I make fun of her for it now.
