Because the people who say it's going to 'destroy the Earth' (scream scream) don't read up on their climate history, and arrogantly believe that the Earth's climate in the 19th/20th century is the way it's always supposed to be (and even more arrogantly, think they can control it), simply because they were the time periods where humans became more aware and knowledgable.
Or, because the environmental movement is so political these days, they just choose to ignore that.

the early anerobic bacteria produced O2 as a waste product.
eventually the gaia system flipped to a new cooler stable state with calcifying plants & animals holding a new stasis, levels of 02 have bee about 18-20% ever since.
the anerobic bacteria had to give up the planet to live in our guts & other dark places.
the problem now is we are destroying the natural feedback mechanisms that have held the stasis (deforestation, loss of corals ...) and at the same time putting back the Co2 that early plants & animals locked away.
judging by your language "global warming madmen" I guess you may have already made up your mind to ignore any evidence that doesn't support a view that there is no problem and there is no limit or concequence to the amount we consume and polute.
I hope I'm wrong, and you have ome to ask this question with an open mind - the planet is a very complex (not complicated) system that has evolved over millenia to support life as we know it; as humans we need to be responsible and take care our short term actions do not make our only home planet uninhabitable.

No one is saying we are all going to bake! If GW is actually occuring as fast as they say it is, it 'simply' means that the global weather patterns will change, the ice caps will melt, sea levels will rise, etc, sooner rather than later! Humans will have to adapt to a whole different bunch of circumstances. That is what the GW people are afraid of, not baking to death! The earth has been very much warmer, as a whole, and at other times, very much colder. That will happen again, and again, regardless of what we are doing. We may be speeding things up somewhat, that's all!

They don't take in to consideration what the plants have done for us. The plants take in the CO2 and through photosynthesis keep the C and give us the O2. The plants represent another variable that the more CO2 it accelerates the growth of the plants.

I think the major problem is down to the loss of trees.Forests have been destroyed to create housing.More & More green belt land is being built on.Then the rain forest the people who destroy the forests & build houses only care about making money near where I live trees that where hundreds of years old have been hacked down for houses.I know we need housing however its time to protect nature.
