Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up a lot equipment ram. that's real. Vista makes use of those ram to % up the computer. Thats why there is no longer a lot loose ram. Xp wastes those loose ram doing no longer some thing. Vista is even more beneficial nicely matched than XP than u imagine that's. Vista hasn't any problem to me for a million year already. Vista is faster at the same time as establishing application and starting up the computer. some human beings evaluate XP because they're too used to XP or they're gamer. it style of feels vista is slower in video games by ability of two-5 fps. No vast deal. VISTa!

Windows Vista Home Premium at the minimum, but before you spend the money, find out whether your games will run on Vista. There are a limited number of programs actually certified to run on Vista, although many (maybe even most) that run on XP will also run on Vista. Also make sure your PC will SUPPORT Vista. It requires a higher-end graphics card and a fair amt. of RAM to run.
I'd reformat with XP and save Vista for when you need an entire new computer.

Vista isn't ready for games (unless you turn off the Aero theme and disable the defender.. but hey it's xp now). As for listening to music again it's not ready, meaning the quality of the sound isn't better then xp (if it works that is).
Stick with XP until a service pack for Vista will be released (and this will be pretty soon).
As for choosing the best type of Vista... it really depends what you want to do with it... If you're not interested in Media Center support then go for Business, if you want Media Center facilities but not Bitlocker support go for Home Premium... If you want them all go for the Ultimate.

My picks are the business and the premium edition> The business edition has all of the security of the premium edition but it does not have the media center. If you need the media centre you could always get home premium but it is not as secure as the business edition.
My advice is to just reformat with XP and hold off until Microsoft releases service pack 1 for vista because there are still computability issues and heaps of bugs that need to be sorted out. You could always get the windows vista upgrade adviser program of Microsoft and that will help you pick a version of vista that is the most compatible with the hardware and software that you are running now. just download it off the Microsoft website.

XP is the stop point for Microbutt. Vista for the guinea pigs to pay to solve Microbutt's problems.
IF, you have to have vista then you need to research!!!!! The lower versions only get 5 year support compared to the normal 10 year support. Heck, my Win200 Pro be as good as some Vista versions, {-D Now ain't that the joke on who?
I got you some links;

This just PC World, search and you get tired of the negativity. I think Linux starting to scare Bill. He try to get the money while he can. That why he pushed Vista before it was ready. I have seen many Companies do this and the fix fall on the customer at their expense.

Vista itself is very slow.Only look and feel is good.But performance is bad compared to XP.
Vista is good on 1 GB RAM only.If you have 512 MB RAM please upgrade otherwise it will be very slow.
On a 512 MB RAM XP is faster than Vista.

Premium seems to cover what you need, but you say nothing about your machine. Use the link below and follow the instructions carefully. You will get accurate recommendations.
