I'm planning on getting a pigeon to raise from a friend. Hopfully I might be able see her this coming weekend. I'm hoping the birds will have an egg, but I'm little concerned, I did plenty of research on hand raising and incubation so I 'll possibly suceed where I failed the last time. But can anyone offer me any good reassuring advice?

thanks!

I also forgot to mention I live in Nevada , the drive to L.A. is about 8 hours! I'm ONLY gonna be there for 3 days.

I don't know much about pigeons but here is a little advice I can give you: When you first approach them, speak softly so you won't frighten them. Don't try touching them yet, they might attack you.
My school owns some pigeons and they're really scared of people. They don't dare to go near anyone except me. They're really sweet.

I repeat myself again,

My advice is unless your parents know about this plan, DON'T DO IT!

Less than a month and a half ago you were asking how to raise a bird without your parents knowing.

That tells me that you don't have the health and welfare in mind for this bird. You can't take care of one properly without them knowing.

IF YOUR PARENTS DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE EGGS, DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!

You still would need a PROPER incubator, not a LAMP! The egg would need proper humidity, temprature and to be turned every TWO HOURS, this includes AT NIGHT.
The chicks may need vet care, which you would not get if you are hiding them from your parents!

DO NOT DO IT!!!!!

Well Checkers, pigeons are tough little birds. They aren't hard to raise. But, I think I might have said to you before. It would be much better for you, and the bird if you leave it with it's mum for about a week That would increase your chances of success greatly! But, if you are determined to have a go, then please feel free to contact me via my profile if you need any help at all!

you should listen to pjj's advice. leave it with its mom as long as possible really.better for it.
make sure its warm at all ytimes but not to warm. maybe even get TWO and raise them together. where will you keep it in an aviary? after they learn to fly eat ect. you can let them out and let them free and they will always go back in cage to sleep eat ect, they are easy to raise but remember they are no different to any other bird. they need attension and need love.

good luck mate! any other question just msg me!

cheeers! =)
