we have our rules in handling dead bodies. you can google 'islamic funeral'. we have to clean the body, wrap it (kafan), do a prayer, then just plain bury them. the best to bury them is in three solat fardu (prayer) times. lets say the person died early in the morning (subuh prayer - first prayer of the day) around 5am. by asar prayer (third prayer of the day, around 5pm), he must be buried.

The dress code for Men and Women should be modest. This means a shirt and trousers for men and an ankle length skirt, which should not be tight or transparent, together with a long sleeved and high-necked top for the women. A headscarf is also essential for women. Shoes are removed before going into the prayer hall. Clean and presentable socks, stockings, or tights are therefore a good idea. They bathed and shrouded the body, put her in a casket they already had in their possession, and I came back late that afternoon and transported her to the cemetery. They put the casket in the van and then it was taken for granted that they would remove the casket from the van. They then put the casket on their shoulders (about 15-20 males), and they carried her to her burial place. other Muslim removals where the bathing was done at the funeral home in the embalming room, with an embalmer present to supervise the facility’s usage.

In Islam it is believed that the body should be returned to the earth as soon as possible after the soul has left it. This is from the belief that man are made from a piece of earth (kind of like 'ashes to ashes, dust to dust'), and thus, once it is soulless, it should return to the earth. It's also believed that even though the soul has departed, the body can still feel, so it must be buried quickly to avoid 'mishandling', since the body obviously can't protect itself. In Islam it is also not proper to mourn the passing too much. I mean, like, you can grieve, but it's not to be done overtly. I think this is why the body is buried as soon as possible - having a dead loved one in the house would probably cause a lot more grief than having him/her buried.

We do this early to help the family of the deceased to start the healing process. We like to do things early - on time, as we believe that the body, although it cannot move, can still feel and hear... therefore its best to start the burial process so they can really be at rest. Why delay something, when the family need to be supported. Also the funeral usually is done from their home, the emphasis on prayer and support of the family.

Yes, we Muslims don't wait till the body is rotten and decaying.

Would you rather wait a week till you are layed to rest?
