One sure way:
Become old enough not to need their permission.
Which will mean that you have moved out and are supporting yourself.

Wow, people seem to have a lot of opinions on whether or not you should get a tattoo, that really isn't the question. Why can't folks just answer the question without some moral message with it? You will do what you want to do, and no one can stop you, plus I am sure there is a good, valid reason for wanting this tattoo if you had thought about it for 4 yrs. Your family, if they genuinely loved you, would forgive you and besides, YOu are an individual, not the representative of your whole family so it doesn't matter if no one else in your family has one. People have to live with consequences and rewards of their actions, that is living. Tell your parents if you don't get this tattoo, you'll get a motorcycle that you plan to use to illegally streetrace. I'm sure they'll have to concede to one of your demands. The idea would be so outragious they'll have to let you have one little, itty bitty tattoo. Good luck!

well in my opinion its your life and it dosent mean you are a bad person just because you have a tattoo. Im 16, and i got my first tattoo a few months ago and i dont regret it a bit, its part of me and i made sure it meant something to me and wasnt just a spur of the moment decision, so as long as you are sure of what you want, GO FOR IT you cant let your parents run your life, or else when you are in the big world you wont know what to do. A tattoo is a personal decision, and only you can make the choice to take that step. GOOD LUCK!

I got my first tattoo when I was 20 and I didn't ask my parents for their permission because I knew they wouldn't let me if I had told them before. So I got something which I really, really like and it's also a symbol of the relationship between my mom and I. After a year, I decided to come clean. You know what? They like it too, especially my mom. Now I have two tattoos and I don't regret getting any of them.
I suggest you to really think about it. If you wanna have a tattoo that bad, you should find something which is meaningful. Not just some lame tattoo that you'll regret someday. Be very sure of it. And you better wait till you reach the legal age.

If you are an adult, then they'll get over it. If you let them make every decision for you in life, then you'll never learn to become independent. If they love you, they'll support you, in anything that you do, and you said that this is something that you know you want 100%, they should support that.
It really doesn't matter who has, or hasn't had one in your mom's family. Someone will have one now, YOU! Go get one, be a rebel without a cause, it's not the end of the world, it's a tattoo, and tattoo's are the SH!T... especially on the arms... I'm getting both of mine tatted up as soon as I get married in October of '08.... woot, woot!
My dad hates my tattoos, my mom hates that I have more than 1 tattoo.... she has 1, so she can't talk sh!t, but I like them. It expresses who I am and I don't care what people think.
It's not like you're disrespecting your parents by tattooing your body, it's your body. Not theirs.

Where I am from, its illegal to get a tattoo before the age of 18, even with parental consent (oregon)
If this tattoo means so much to you, certainly you can wait until you are of legal adult age. It really isnt hurting you any to not have it yet. You should respect your parents wishes. I know that is hard to hear, but you have the rest of your life to decorate your body. Its not necessary now. Like I said, if it really means so much to you, its well worth the wait.
I am 21, married and a mom. I have a tattoo, plus my ears, navel, and nose pierced. Besides my ears, I got all my mods as an adult. They too were well worth the wait. My tattoo was something that I had wanted since I was about 12 years old, but I knew that once I was an adult, I could get it, and anything else I wanted. In the meantime, I just enjoyed being a teen, and so should you.

If you are under 18 forget it. If you are over 18 which would you rather have a roof over your head, or the tattoo? If you want one that bad, concentrate on doing what you need to do to move out, then get it as a celebration to being able to be on your own.

The most important thing is what you want. It is your body and if the age isn't an obstacle, go for it.
None of my family has tattoos (including ants, uncles, cousins and immediate family) and of course they don't fantasize the idea me having some. Ofcourse they have got used to the fact, since there is nothing they can do. They still love me.
If you do get one, and get kicked out of the house, that's sort of extreme. It is as extreme as kicking out of your teenage daughter who became pregnant at age of 14. ;).

I got my tattoo without telling or asking anyone when I was 19 years old. I don't regret it too much, just it's placing...
When I did tell my parents, my mom was like ok, whatever. My dad was pissed, but oh well. The only one that had a valid point was my uncle (rest his soul): he said now, you can never change your identity or say "it wasn't me" cuz it's like a cattle brand, it identifies you. I've never run into any problems like that, but he does make a point.

You really need to say how old you are. I got my first one when I was 19 and told my parents I was getting one. They freaked out and I told them calmly, it's my money, my body and I can get one. I did a courtesy telling you I was going to get one. They understood that and I got one. I now have 4, and my dad got his first tattoo when I got my last one at the age of 59.
