I read that people can learn and even master the language by reading books, playing the CD roms with constant practice. However, I know that people also attend jap classes at language schools and they'll sit for the JLPT test. I wonder is it necessary to get that Cert? What purpose is it for?

I'm trying to learn the language but can decide what method to learn it. I do know some very basic structure and vocab ''cause I'm an anime lover.

JLPT used to be used as a qualification for foreign admissions to Japanese universities until a few years ago, when a new battery of tests in various subject matters was developed. In this sense, it was in some ways similar to the American TOEFL. Nowadays, however, you'll still see employers looking for proof of your ability. Level 1 is generally the standard, but some companies will accept Level 2. Even people who don't 'need' JLPT (especially expats living in Japan) sometimes sign up for it just to keep motivated to continue studying. It's not for the weak of heart, though. To get Level 1, you need to know about 10,000 words and 2000 kanji, so if you're mainly interested in the spoken language, it may not be worth the time and effort.

You need the bachelors degree for a Working Type visa for instructor. There's no real way around it. You just need it. It is a Immigration requirement not a job requirement. You can work in Japan without a degree if you are a student studying in Japan (college student visa), or if you are married to someone in Japan or have some other visa to be in Japan. If you have none of those, then you need your bachelors degree or years of experience. I don't understand, did you graduate from High School? If so why does it take 3-4 more years to enter a University?
